About Chinwag
Founded in 2026, Chinwag is a bistro-style restaurant in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Chinwag’s menu features food that blends smoke, fire, fresh and delicious ingredients, and cooking techniques from all over the globe, as well as a robust cocktail, beer, and wine program. Founded by veteran chefs and restaurateurs Alex Belew and Shane Nasby, Chinwag is an original full-service but casual restaurant concept offering upscale touches in a vibrant, cozy dining space. Chinwag’s name comes from an old British term that means “a great conversation between friends,” and guests are encouraged to experience joy and connection over food.

Meet Our Founders
Executive Chef and Partner Alex Belew, a Murfreesboro native, drew international acclaim when he won Season 21 of Hell’s Kitchen, earning the respect of Chef Gordon Ramsay, his fellow competitors, and millions of viewers. After completing the competition, Belew was invited to take the position of Head Chef at Hell's Kitchen Caesars Atlantic City. Prior to his time on the show, Belew owned and operated a catering company as well as the award-winning Murfreesboro fine dining restaurant, “Dallas and Jane.” Belew is known for his pursuit of excellence, precision, and constant search for knowledge about food, from ingredients to preparation techniques - while also not taking it too seriously. He brings this attitude to Chinwag and says, “Getting together to eat delicious food with people you like should be a joyful experience. We’re serving everyday food prepared with a little extra thought and attention to detail, but without pretension. And we’re doing it in a fun and warm atmosphere at a price point that welcomes anyone to enjoy it at any time.”
Partner Shane Nasby is a chef, restaurateur, and the founder of the award-winning local burger restaurant, “Cledis Burgers & Beer,” which has multiple locations in the Nashville area. A Grand Champion BBQ Pitmaster, Nasby began his culinary career by starting a catering company which he pivoted into a successful brick-and-mortar restaurant before selling it in 2021 to focus on other projects. Since then, he has developed multiple award-winning dining concepts with his hospitality group, Raven Hospitality. With Shane at the helm, his restaurants have won numerous awards, appeared in multiple “best of” lists, and garnered critical acclaim in publications and broadcasts such as Eater, Forbes, Fox News, Food Network, Cooking Channel, and more. In addition to winning Nashville’s Battle of the Burger, the Nashville Scene’s “Best Burger” award, and other local competitions, Nasby is also a World Burger Competition winner.
